The Press Gang, formed in 2007, is a mixture of Punk, classic Heavy Metal, Riff driven Hard Rock, salt air, dirt, and kitchen parties all in one. Half the band hails from the East Coast and the other half the West. Lead Singer/rhythm guitarist and founder Elorps is from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Bass Player Ronnie Keats, from Newfoundland, and Drummer Lyndon Strandquist and lead Guitarist Chad Laing from Alberta. This mix of coasts and influences has bred something sweet and unique, otherwise known as “The Heavy”. The new album "Onward & Upward" sees the band completing a year long journey after enlisting Chad Laing into the band. the transition album sees three songs with former members and new songs with Laing. Phase one of the record was recorded at "The Press Box",.the underground cave in which the lads practice. Opting for a more 'laid back' atmosphere to record the drums, it was decided that the home base was ideal for recording instead the rushed feel of an off site studio. Phase two was brought to Nick's studio to finish the guitars, bass and vocals. Also started recording, is an EP to highlight new takes on older material, as well a couple of new ones seeing the light of day. "The Amazing Julie Strain EP" will see the light of day when the studio sessions begin again. The band has a diversity now that works well with it's current treatment of the older material as well as new songs. Laing brings with him experience from being in bands such as Sufferance, Scopes Monkey Trail, and Weapon. Drummer Lyndon Strandquist brings experience from The Turrettes, Deadman's Hand, and The Mad Cowboys, Bass player Ronnie Keats Molotov Smile, and Elorps, The Feldippians and Hail Damage. Opening for such acts as SNFU, The Dreadnoughts, Knucklehead, and The Mahones, along with playing alongside many of Calgary's local heavy hitters, The Press Gang is moving onward and upward. Ambitious to play more, record more and get The Heavy out there to hungry ears everywhere, The Press Gang isn’t stopping for anyone or anything. |
All former members of The Press Gang are quite active in the Calgary music scene. |
